Foreword
Hello! This is my blog for the course “How to make (almost) Any Experiments Using Digital Fabrication” for the year 2024-25.
1. Who Am I?
My name is Matilde and I'm 21 years old! I was born in Lisbon, Portugal, where I lived with my parents and my little sister.
A big passion of mine is to visit new countries, face new realities and explore some traditions, that's why I already visited a lot of countries! So I decided to come to Brussels for one semester, and I'm loving it!
2. Hobbies
I am a scout since I was 9 years old and I have always been an active, expontaneous and extrovert person in every project and activity that I have been part of. As hobbies, I used to pratice dance, swimming, volleyball and handball. In high school, I got elected as the president of the student union. In college I remained the participative girl I was, I made part of many organizing teams in biomedical engineering student events.
3. Area of Study
Since I was a kid, my dream was to be a doctor, but the “universe” wanted me to be a Biomedical Engineer and I really like this field. Now, I’ve got a Bsc degree and I’m in the first year of my master.
4. Previous Work
Trainee at Hospital CUF Tejo: in february I worked as a trainee in the Hospital CUF Tejo - Medical Simulation Centre. It was originally created for doctors, nurses and students to train hard medical procedures. Here I learned how to manage equipments and I also took part in a Hospital project. The aim of this project was to create a low-cost simulator for invasive cardiothoracic procedures. In this project I developed my skills in Autodesk, Fusion360, 3D slicer and learned how to 3D print.
Device Developer for Rehabilitation Center: I developed a device for a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He is a painter from heart but due to his disease, he wasn’t able to cover large canvas with his paintings. So, with 2 partners we designed a prototype with fusion360, that could be printed out, and so improve his ability to paint again. :)
5. Future
Now I am focused on finishing my master’s degree to begin my professional carrer as an engineer. My ultimate goal is to help improve people’s health! :) If you are interested in knowing more about me you can visit my LinkedIn page.
